The Jungle Book Enjoys a Renaissance

Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book is enjoying something of a renaissance lately. A musical version of the story just opened in Bethesda, Md and Disney has just released a “platinum edition” of the 1967 animated film. The Washington Post reports that the musical attempts to portray the darker side of Kipling’s India. The production company’s Artistic Director is quoted as saying: “The story begins with a tiger killing a boy’s parents and goes straight on from there and we’re not backing away from that.”
