Legendary Indian composer and musician A.R. Rahman was one of the 70-plus musicians who participated in “We Are The World 2010”, the charity single recorded yesterday to raise funds for the victims of the Haitian earthquake.
According to EW.com, other artists who participated included “Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber, P!nk, Julianne Hough, Carlos Santana, Tony Bennett, Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of the Beach Boys, Rob Thomas, Randy Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, and your newly anointed Best New Artist, Zac Brown.”
We Are The World, of course, was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. It turns out that the King of Pop and the Mozart of Madras shared a special connection. Shortly after Jackson’s death, Rahman blogged:
I met him personally after the Oscars in Los Angeles and we vibed very well. He said that he loved India and the Indian people. He said he heard good things about me and he was praising the chord progression of Jai Ho’s chorus.
He was bursting with energy and told me that every dance move he did, came from his soul and did a five second stunning example. It was like a lightning strike 🙂
