Welcome to the world, baby girl!

New York’s media outlets and hospitals annually scramble to announce the birth of the city’s first baby each year.

Little Alishba Waseem was born to Mehnaz Rasool and Muhammad Waseem Khan, two physicians from Pakistan, just after midnight on New Year’s Day. She’s one of two Brooklyn babies born seconds after 2011 began.

Special props to Ms. Rasool for allowing a Daily News photographer into her hospital room and doing a radio interview shortly after giving birth.

(And Alishba, if you are reading this 10 to 13 years from now, don’t read the New York Post or Daily News comments on the articles about your birth. Trust me on this.)
